Suis La Lune are one of those screamo bands from abroad that are so good, you associate them with the long-gone likes of Raein, La Quiete or DaÏtro. The thing is, they’re not broken up or from Italy. They’ve actually been kicking it since 2005 around Sweden, more specifically in Stockholm and Gothenburg. Even so, they’ve played more than 80% of their shows outside of the country, spending their time instead on a handful of tours in the UK and the east coast (the boys have a sweet spot for Baltimore).

Breaking the silence with their first release since 2008, Riala is the highly anticipated, self-produced LP from Sweden's Suis La Lune. Building on the frenzied sound so distinct in their discography, Riala is a clearly matured effort-- full of self-proclaimed "complex pop songs"--and is all the stronger for it.

As specified in the other review for this band, Suis La Lune is undeniably different from their peers in the euro-screamo scene. The album is characterized by their unique "feel-good" aesthetic, an atmosphere relatively unheard of in a genre that celebrates in downtrodden, self-aware anger and pity. Suis La Lune seem to be right at home among their peers, yet they simultaneously transcend the genre to which they belong.
Smooth, interlaced guitar work seems to act a strange counterpoint to the rest of the group. Abrasive vocals and frantic drum work, two traits that seem to define the genre, seem to take the back seat to the guitar work here. Therein lies Suis La Lune's defining characteristic. Major key arpeggios, gleaming, shimmering octave chords, a peaceful, reflective aesthetic. Suis La Lune is no one-trick pony however. The music varies greatly, from smooth guitar interludes backed only by delicate drums to a full, aggressive sound, complimented by an impeccable selection of cymbals on the drum set and the ethereal vocal work.

"The Light Matters Always Matters" proves to be a great example of the smooth transition from one sonic texture to another, while still remaining under the aesthetic banner that Suis La Lune seems to so comfortably occupy. It seems foolish to try an point to specific examples from the album to characterize the work however. The album's simply extremely consistent, and picking any one example of brilliance would do the rest of the album an injustice.
Being a full-length album, Quiet, Pull The Strings! seems to allow for the group to explore a great deal more musical elements. The album is distinguished from their earlier work in it's spastic nature, not only in individual moments of the album, but the incredible diversity and smooth transition from one musical idea to the next. The album's a fast-paced journey through a variety of musical concepts, struggling to be heard in such a brief album. As a result, Quiet, Pull The Strings! feels almost like a teaser for what is to come, an invitation into Suis La Lune's collective imagination. Yet each idea is full-realized, and this lends great diversity in such a short release.
It's a quick listen, and one that will draw your attention time and time again. It's brief and varied, and without a shadow of a doubt, worth your attention if you take even the smallest of the pleasure in the genre.

Suis La Lune is Swedish screamo band from Stockholm and Gothenburg. The band was formed in February 2005. 

To say that Heir EP feels a bit “different” is a stark understatement. Instead of adhering to convention and embracing a downtrodden, heartbroken aesthetic, Suis La Lune wield a sound that can accurately be described as “feel-good.” You would probably never guess it from looking at the album art, but Heir EP is an uplifting piece of music throughout. Part of the beauty that makes their sound so incredible comes from their ability to make the traditionally sad, well, happy. The devices the Swedish band employs to achieve this effect are equally impressive. “With Wings Of Feathers And Glue” commences Heir EP with a series of chirping birds ingrained against the stark silence. While the screaming is latent and certainly harsh, Suis La Lune balance this out with a melodic vocal line from the background that acts like a rudder to steer the ship. Throughout the all-too-ephemeral four songs, the guitars are as dynamic as I’ve ever heard. The band’s ability to change tempo time and time again is simply astounding on first listen or fiftieth listen. From spastic to melodic, from a whispery acoustic intro to a riff one can only describe as a “wall of sound,” Suis La Lune prove to the listener that their penchant for a different style is easily backed up by their technical prowess and creative song-writing.
  Under the guise of screamo, it’s hard not to feel that Suis La Lune is really tricking us all. How can a piece of music bereft with ravenous screaming and dissonant chords galore be this easy to listen to and so feel-good? If there is an answer to be found, it can most likely be attributed to the astounding umbrella that envelopes Heir EP. While the chords progress seamlessly from harmonious to clashing with voracious screaming in tow, Suis La Lune communicate a strong sense of tranquility and blithe, but most of all fun. The Heir EP feels sincere, to the point that it would feel perfectly reasonable to sing or dance along; not in remorse or pain like the band’s contemporaries, but rather in jubilation. Whether it be a worn-out veteran of harsh scramz that still cries when you hear Saetia, or even a newcomer to the usually-unwelcoming genre, I challenge you not to feel a little tinge of happiness and surprise whilst Suis La Lune blisters on merrily.
