ATR’s early releases – which included songs like “Hetzjagd Auf Nazis!”/“Hunt Down the Nazis!” - were surrounded by controversy in Germany. Highly political, they fused anarchist and anti-Nazi views with punk vocals and the emerging techno sound which was ravishing new back than at the beginning of the 90s. The three Berliners – Alec Empire, Hanin Elias and MC Carl Crack taken their name from a Portuguese Joe song Teenage Riot from the Teen-age Riot album with the word Atari added, as an Atari ST computer was used to create compositions.
They signing to Phonogram Records, a major European label, in 1993 the band received an unusually large financial advance which they duplicitously used to set up their own record label: Digital Hardcore Recordings (DHR) and in the best tradidion of any anarchist and punk band, they never delivered a commercially viable demo to Phonogram.
After three self-released albums, “Delete Yourself!” (originally titled 1995) (1995), “The Future of War” (1997) and “60 Second Wipe Out” (1999), the band effectively disbanded in 2000.
In 2001, Carl Crack died from an overdose. Hanin Elias left DHR to create Fatal Recordings, a label formed exclusively for female artists, but Empire produced the track “You Suck” for her debut album “No Games, No Fun”.
In January 2010, it was announced that Atari Teenage Riot will reunite for a few live shows in Europe and in early March 2010, Alec Empire released the new ATR-Track “Activate” via SoundCloud. It is the first song with their new MC: CX KiDTRONiK.
And here we are, after a lap of 12 years, the forth studio release by ATR and 10 new noisy and chaotic songs are here. Hanin Elias ragging just the same, the album is full of energy and… digital hardcore. This is another heavy stuff, none of their fans will be disappointed. There’s an exclusive preview of the album on their official site.
