Barren Womb are a noise punk/hardcore duo hailing from Trondheim, Norway. Formed November 2011 by Timo Silvola and Tony Gonzahl after the disbandment of their former band, Like Rats From A Sinking Ship, Barren Womb blend hardcore punk with elements of black metal, grindcore and country.
On the Origin of Fæces Containing 8 intense protest songs lodged.

Two guys who used to be in Like Rats From A Sinking Ship makes up this noise duo from Norway. Have to admit that I was never a fan of lrfass neither on record or live so I did not have high hopes for this when I first put this on. Press-description was short but managed to include ‘protest songs’ and this combined with the EP title and track titles like ‘Less is Roger Moore’ and ‘I Have a Hobbit to Support’ did not lift my spirit neither. Have no lyrics so we will just have to take their word that these are indeed protest songs.
Musically this is far better than lrfass. They got rid of the super annoying synth elements and have stripped their music down bridging noise, metal and more punk elements together with a thick and heavy sound that suits them good. At times they are quite melodic (‘Are we werewolves yet?’) and other times they are playing a whole lot faster bordering towards straight up hardcore (‘I have a hobbit to support’). They are at their best when they slow down and play as ugly as they can (‘A matter of life and death metal’). Over the course of the 8 songs though, they are losing my attention as this gets to generic. Norway has been spoiled with bands in this genre lately with bands like Noxagt and Årabrot and although Barren Womb do a decent attempt this just shows they have a long way to go if they aim to step up to the throne. -Kjetil Holstad (collectivezine)

Formed in the early part of the Pliocene age by complex molecules, BATS (featuring ex-members of Martha Washington) have spent millions of years developing their sound from a series of intermittent bleeps to the sexy sonic bullets they create today. 4 out of 5 BATS hail from Ireland's alpha-smoke- Dublin, while the other crawled his way on bloody knuckles out of the haunted town of Carbury, Kildare in the mid 1600's.
Cruel Sea Scientist is just a smidge unsatisfying, if only because it begs to last longer. Question marks remain over the group’s originality: both instruments and vocals sound a little too imitative of their influences at some points, whether it’s the Blood Brothers-like call-and-response routine and funky hardcore riffs, the Todd Smith-like spoken passages, but these inconsistencies will surely be ironed out over time and Cruel Sea Scientist will be remembered as a rough but eminently replayable slice of premium musicosity.

"Catholic Guilt Or The Queerest Of Thoughts" by All Human is a highly textural Electronic Indie album.

Songs within the album draw the line between a chilled out vibe, and an urgency that excites and draws the listener in. This combination creates an interesting conflict that gets resolved somewhere between heavy electronic textures, eerie songwriting and vocals, and a constant driving alt rock spirit.

Songs like "Oh My My Boy (This Island Has A Sex Drive)" start off with sparse production, a raw beat, and then the vocals flesh out that skeleton (along with techno noise) with dirty lyrics and an array of dynamically different vocal harmonies. Trencher is a band from London creating a particular Grindcore sound. But think of it as a band without guitar player and with a casio-tone toy keyboard. Original and with character. Like old DIY grindcore bands, but darker, and sometimes, rather more experimental.

To the untrained ear Trencher could very well sound like a creative dead end. Wrong. It’s important to take into account the humour at play here. Trencher’smusic is hellish, there’s no doubt about that. They certainly sounded like death on their early recordings lo-fi and formlessly segueing slabsof bottom-heavy grind that (dis)graced the world with their presence only on audio cassettes with tracing-paper sleeves. The Trencher of today are different though. Though still developing their beastly formula for Casio destruction they’ve developed a masterful grasp of structure, an articulation to their chaos that is hard to argue with. To counterbalance the heaviest, sludgiest sawtooth bass guitar there are ‘House Of Horrors’ keyboards; cute little stabs of Casio and clean and direct frequencies. Foregrounded and hilarious Trencher are all about surreal. Their 2006 full album Lips was a slight move away from the soundtrack to a carcrash that was Dracula..., you can hear aprogression away from total chaos and lack of control to something much more brutal, heavy and structuredkind of like an 18 wheeler at a monster truck show colliding in mid-air...on purpose.

Cleft formed in November 2011, when Dan & John found each other (and themselves) on the internet, despite only living two miles apart. Originally from the deep South, and after a spell in Brighton where he discovered the joys of cheese, Dan moved up North to Manchester. John moved down from Lancaster at exactly the same time, due to a bad experience with a three foot garden gnome and a bucket.
Since then they've been condensing 14 minute prog songs into 3 minutes and having a lot of fun doing it.

Well, fret no more friends. For if you were one of those folks bemoaning the lack of bands who had that uncanny ability to mix rich instrumentation, wailed vocals and math-rock in a way that somehow managed to sound totally natural then your new heroes may have arrived.

Much like everything else I’ve so far heard on Holy Roar, We’ll Die Smiling arrive sounding like (more or less) the finished article. This brief, energetic four track EP is over in 11 minutes but hidden away inside are ideas and songs far grander than their running times suggest: 'I'm Not Causing Chaos; Chaos Caused Me' mixes an initially intricate, tuneful guitar line with blistering stop start drumming and blood curdling vocals seamlessly; 'Interdisciplinary' teases a full on breakdown for its opening minute, before a deep, layered wall of noise hits you square in the face interspersed with what could very nearly be described as a tune; 'Matthew Is Magnetic' very definitely has one at it’s heart, though it too is hidden under a wealth of intricate musicianship and ire; lastly, 'Yeah, You Got That Manflu Down' is a brief but relentlessly heavy assault on the senses, showcasing the band's harder side throughout.

What is truly wonderful about the whole EP is how rich and well-produced it is; moments such as the point where the tone totally transforms 1:01 into 'Matthew…' as the lush guitar comes in sounding fully formed and authoritative; or the latter half of 'Interdisciplinary' as the harmony chugs away violently under the drums and guitars, reverberating in and out of focus.

Early signs suggest that this Yorkshire trio share their forefather’s ability to combine explosive guitar, ear-shattering vocals and staccato rhythms to great effect. But if anything, the sheer technicality and precision on show here suggests that rather than being a band looking backwards, they’re an entirely modern day force. -drownedinsound

Serena Joy, an ambient mix of lo-fi indie, post rock and melodramatic sky torching screamo.

Something has been brewing in the Serena Joy camp for a while. Covertly stealing members from several defunct underground bands, including andtheywillriot! and Missiles of Uncertain Destinations, they've now burst back onto the scene as a formidable seven-piece band, incorporating a range of new instruments including a violin, keys and even a mini-accordion brought out especially for the live show. What's more, their new EP, holding the appropriately gallant title “Ours Will Be A Lonely Battle”, may well turn out to be the most brazenly epic thing you have ever heard!

Split into four tracks or “movements” this 20-minute cinematic composition voyages through dynamic late-90s screamo territory, taking in sprawling sections of weaving instrumentation and post-rock ambience. Narrated by a mixture of raw screaming vocals, harmonious female singing, snatches of background chatter and poignant laments, it draws to a memorable finale with an extended spoken-word passage residing behind driving instrumentation that gradually gathers intensity; an unwavering stream of consciousness, falling over itself to get the words out, and ultimately climaxing with a coming together of voices in the rousing sing-along.

Understated, it is not. But although victory appears to ring hollow for the protagonists at the heart of the record’s concept, for the band itself this is far from the truth. Overblown, but splendidly so; Ours Will Be A Lonely Battle indulges in many of the great aspects of music, raging war on tired and bloated genres by ripping them apart and pillaging the best bits - much as sadly defunct Scottish five-piece The Fall Of Boss Koala did so well. And, before you say it, yes - I am fully aware of the romanticised nature of some of the statements contained in this review, but when faced with an affair of such magnitude, just you try describing it without getting a little carried away!

Originally issued in 1999, We Are the Romans was Botch’s second full-length, but to the chagrin of many, was also their last. Though the breakup occurred two years after the release of this, their swansong, the Washingtonians left such an indelible mark on the scene that their concepts would turn up later in the music of bands like Norma Jean, among myriad others. Thankfully, Botch seem steadfast in their decision to remain disbanded, and rather than reunite, former members continue to forge ahead with new, musical endeavors such as Minus the Bear, Onalaska, Roy, and These Arms Are Snakes. After all, a reunion could result in a comeback album, which would inevitably pale in relation to previous installments in their discography. Speaking of their catalog, the remastered Deluxe Edition of We Are the Romans is the finale of the Botch re-release treatment that covered 061502, Unifying Themes Redux, and American Nervoso. So fitting it is that their quintessential album has been expanded by one whole disc, which offers most of the recordings in demo form, and a few live tracks. It goes without saying that “To Our Friends in the Great White North” and “Mondrian Was a Liar” are no less hard-hitting nor infectious as they were seven years ago – prior to the alarming surge of metalcore and post-hardcore. Other intricate, raging numbers like “Transition from Persona to Object,” “C. Thomas Howell as the ‘Soul Man,’” “Saint Matthew Returns to the Womb,” “Frequency Ass Bandit,” and “I Wanna Be a Sex Symbol on My Own Terms” are convoluted yet fully comprehensible, though a mid-paced song such as “Swimming the Channel vs. Driving the Chunnel” possesses a sound that the Neur-Isis niche is now known for.  When discussing We Are the Romans, one need mention the 10-minute “Man the Ramparts,” which is the longest, most climactic of the lot. The midsection chanting is unique, but more importantly, effective too.

As noted above, the second disc has a wealth of demos up for grabs, and surprisingly, each is of high quality in both production and execution. Further endearing is the fact that studio banter personalizes each song. Otherwise, there are no major changes except for the significantly shorter, chant-free “Man the Ramparts.” The four live renditions are satisfying, if muddy or flimsy, and Botch fans will definitely recognize “Vietmam” from their sole EP An Anthology of Dead Ends and “Hutton’s Great Heat Engine” from their debut American Nervoso.

Despite the asinine song titles – that part of the quartet’s trickle-down influence I could do without – We Are the Romans is required listening for anyone who has even a casual affinity for this particular style. While metalcore has a less than favorable image these days, and though there are anomalies to the following claim, there was once a time when it could be played innovatively and with verve. Botch’s catalog proves just that.

The biggest problem with Exotic Animal Petting Zoo to date has been whether to take them seriously or not. With their outlandish name matched vibrantly with their song titles it was often disconcerting to put hope in a band that sang about “Richard Dean Anderson/One Is In Sheol, the Pit”. So with their sophomore album all (two or three) eyes were on the band to deliver something meaningful, something “fans” could legitimately defend. Well Tree of Tongues is here and nothing is answered but that may be the point. Tongues dives into a rabbit hole everyone was afraid to acknowledge, but many knew hid wonders. It envelops the listener almost immediately into a world only mad men live and is amplified by its stunning beauty. Though faults lay in its predictability and almost refusal to sneak back into the crazy song structures their debut was heralded for, Tongues mostly succeeds because, though normal in its appearance, it’s batshit fucking crazy. -controlled (sputnicmusic)

Shortly after the demise of their former band Black Cat #13 in 2001, Lindsey Gillard and Mark McLean joined forces with Allan Graham to form the quirky punk rock group The Sick Lipstick. During the two-year period in which Black Cat #13 was together, they managed to garner a large, devout following, even though they only put out a handfull of vinyl-only releases, including a 7” on the influencial Three.One.G label.

The band’s debut EP was released by Sound Virus, an up and coming California label that has put out records by great and cutting edge bands such as The Blood Brothers, Liars and Pretty Girls Make Graves. Since it’s release in September of 2002, the EP has sold strongly with little promotion, due to the large following of Black Cat #13.

A punk album on acid. This is absolutely NOT for the typical punk fan, but for a more open minded punk fan, if any. A homerun for the noise punk/lo-fi genre!

American Womanhood is a Baltimore, Maryland hardcore band. The band was founded in early 2010 with a desire to perform and record fast, chaotic, heavy music without resorting to cliche breakdowns or other generic metal stereotypes. American Womanhood loves playing basement shows and small venues. Floors always trump stages. And you never know what singers Marc Dyer and Asa Gillis will do in the midst of a set.

This band is so fucking good, playing from mathrock to mathcore to gringcore to chaos!!! If anyone here have their first album "An Ungrateful Ghost Gets the Gift of Life" please let me know, cause i can't find it inside the net!!! :D

Started as another band project by Mr.Chainshaw as the lead vocal with his local hometown mates. they are Sleep-O on bass, Hell Kid on guitar, and Big Momma on drums.
with their totally different musical background they decided to make an experimental metal band with so many genres mixed up.In one song they put heavy guitar riffs and some metal core beats and suddenly in the middle part they changed it into a danceable swing music or with some jazzy guitar riffs. And last but not least Mr. Chainsaw’s unique way of singing, screaming and growling has add a different taste to their musical style.
After months of experimenting on sounds and music, they decided to make their first EP, which was finally released on march 2008 by a local indie label from Jakarta called FASTYOUTH RECORDS. Their unique music and sound soon captured ears of teenagers on many major cities in Indonesia. On November 2007 they went on a Java - Bali tour with their hometown partner Last Pain, performing on big cities like Semarang, Surabaya, And their breathtaking closing act at Twice Bar- Kuta Bali.
Early on 2008 Sleep-O and Big Momma decided to leave the band to concentrate on other issues. They were replace by Kiddy Buddy on drums, a very talented young musician, and Kinky Val a cute female playing Bass.

Love Like…Electrocution, Australia’s own spazz princes, are Down Under’s answer to bands like Hot Cross and Saetia. They blend screamo and metal in one fucked-up stew and spit the contents in your face, begging for a reaction.
LLE are a sextet that uses all of their members to their full potential. Like the above-mentioned groups, the music here is often technical and complex. There’s a lot going on and a lot of energy contained within five inches of compact disc. Often the drummer is going crazy with some fast scattershot beats or keeping the members in check with a precisely executed breakdown. The guitars are overlapping and mesh together. There’s some high speed noodling and a driving rhythm. All of this compliments the dual vocalist structure well. The lead vocals are screamed in a higher register with a strained voice. The backups are shouted back and they are often in unison.
Thankfully with song titles as ironic, comic and nonsensical as: “We Only Fuck to Black Sabbath Vol. 4″ & “Tips for Avoiding the Clap. 1 I Wouldn’t Piss on a Scorpion if it Was on Fire,” LLE is a group that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The messages aren’t heavy handed, and in fact without a lyric sheet they are almost indecipherable. It would be nice to know what all the fuss and screaming was about, but unfortunately you don’t get that satisfaction.
Overall, though, this is a mixed effort. The group, with all the musicians’ complexities and intricacies, is tight but could be tighter. The songs are short and therefore deliver a to-the-point punch, but after listening to the disc on repeat it can begin to sound like just under 20 minutes of straight screaming, each song no different than the last. So in one simple statement, at times Love Like…Electrocution can be either the ultimate motivational tool and energy pill or the ultimate headache inducer.
