Cavalcades, from Aberdeen, Scotland, formed at the end of 2010, but have already achieved a lot. After a string of sold out splits and self-released EPs, they toured the UK for the first time in February 2012, and went on a huge 19 date summer tour throughout the whole of Europe with Canada’s Todos Caeran.
Genre-wise, Cavalcades can be placed somewhere between European Screamo and Melodic Hardcore; heavily influenced by the likes of Raein, Suis La Lune and Daitro.Coping is a 16minute long 5-track EP/Mini Album. Mastered at The Atomic Gardens by Jack Shirley (comadre).

Cavalcades - 2011 Nothing Worse Than Empty EP

Band : Cavalcades
Album : Nothing Worse Than Empty EP
Release Year : 2011
Genre : Screamo | Hardcore

Tracklist :
1. April 4, 1968
2. Quiet Voices, Loud Places
3. (A Dramatic Procession Of People Or Things)
4. Half A Year

Despite forming in late 2010, Aberdeen’s Cavalcades took very little time in releasing their first E.P., Nothing Worse Than Empty. Seemingly inspired by bands such as Defeater and Touche Amore with their heart filled, emotional sound, this E.P. certainly isn’t bad for a first shot.

Downbeat riffs and thrashing drums cultivate a strong melancholic vibe that lasts throughout the E.P. and a lot of really nice guitar work goes on, with some fantastic melodic phrases laid on top of heavier chord progressions. However, the vocals aren’t up to the same standard as the music. They are a bit too monotonous and although sounding suitably desperate and hearty, could be more interesting in most parts with more variation to add emphasis to different sections of the songs. The mix doesn’t do the vocals any favours either, as they feel a bit lost due to production which feels a bit muddy.

This four track E.P. is no doubt strong. It has a great sound, with a very clear direction and is a strong start for such a new band. With some more interesting and elaborate vocals and better production on their next release, this band will go far.
