Formed in the early part of the Pliocene age by complex molecules, BATS (featuring ex-members of Martha Washington) have spent millions of years developing their sound from a series of intermittent bleeps to the sexy sonic bullets they create today. 4 out of 5 BATS hail from Ireland's alpha-smoke- Dublin, while the other crawled his way on bloody knuckles out of the haunted town of Carbury, Kildare in the mid 1600's.
Cruel Sea Scientist is just a smidge unsatisfying, if only because it begs to last longer. Question marks remain over the group’s originality: both instruments and vocals sound a little too imitative of their influences at some points, whether it’s the Blood Brothers-like call-and-response routine and funky hardcore riffs, the Todd Smith-like spoken passages, but these inconsistencies will surely be ironed out over time and Cruel Sea Scientist will be remembered as a rough but eminently replayable slice of premium musicosity.

Just about one year has passed since Town Portal captured and released the first fragment of their non-verbal musical universe in the shape of the EP Vacuum Horror, which was merely released digitally on a pay-what-you-want basis. In spite of humble circumstances, the record acquired a much less humble amount of attention, receiving praising reviews in leading Danish music magazines like Soundvenue (5/6), Devilution (4/5) and Geiger, who said that “Town Portal manages to utilize all the means of music and does so on an exceptionally high level. The energy of a band young at heart, and the notion of a feeling of no limits to their own prowess, shines through…”. Furthermore the Vacuum Horror EP was launched into the international blogosphere, and got the band touring around most of the European mainland.

Since then the constellation has been reduced from four men to three, forcing Town Portal to decompose and reconstruct approaches to sound and composition. These endeavors has resulted in the debut album Chronopoly (from Greek ‘chronos’ and English ‘monopoly’). Like its predecessor this record still offers instrumental rock-music with a sludgy dropped tune hook, which serves as counterweight to complex and playful compositions. With a tireless curiosity new ways are sought out, of combining tones in untraditional ways, with the traditional guitar-bass-drum constellation. On Chronopoly though, these well-known components mutate to their extremes, and form a release that is both more complex, melodic, direct, and boundary pushing than the predecessor; an exponential development in a well-governed welter of metal, shoegaze, indie, and progressive rock.

During this fall the album will be followed by a set of Danish shows, as well as Town Portal’s third international tour, that in the course of two weeks will take the band through Germany, France and Switzerland, in the company of American Feast of the Epiphany.

Cleft are a 2-piece turbo-prog band and we make massive, dirty, instrumental music using a guitar and some drums.
Cleft formed in November 2011, when Dan & John found each other (and themselves) on the internet, despite only living two miles apart. Originally from the deep South, and after a spell in Brighton where he discovered the joys of cheese, Dan moved up North to Manchester. John moved down from Lancaster at exactly the same time, due to a bad experience with a three foot garden gnome and a bucket.
Since then they've been condensing 14 minute prog songs into 3 minutes and having a lot of fun doing it.

Cleft are influenced by all types of new music and love to hear new things, so get in touch if you've got something you want to share.

Encrypt Manuscript has been concocting some of the more unique and divisive sounds in the metro area the last few years. Though it starts with a base of frantic post-hardcore / indie rock, the band restrain it with an attentive detail to jazz breaks and more subtle underlying instrumentation, topped off with alternations between a high-pitched vocal yelp, a beat poetry-inflected delivery and the occasional frailly sung section. Their long-awaited debut full-length, Census, is the culmination of these talents.

There's been some persistent comparisons since the band's Dialogues EP: the Nation of Ulysses (for the contrast of an unsettling swagger and clear jazz influences; some vague political theory musings and similar aesthetic); the related Make Up (for the unique, semi-theatrical and soulful display; aesthetic, too); and the Blood Brothers (since Brian Davis' jarring vocals mildly resemble Jordan Blilie and Johnny Whitney combined into an all-in-one approach). But Census largely alleviates those similarities. Encrypt is also way cleaner-sounding than the NOU, but you might chalk that up to advancements in recording technology the last 16 years. In fact, people will probably now draw musical (more so than vocal) parallels between them and Minus the Bear's more spacious moments; frankly, it wouldn't be totally off. Nonetheless, Census brings out Encrypt's individual characteristics considerably better than before.

The wordplay Davis employs is likely to remind some of the At the Drive-In circa Relationship of Command ("Empires are flea bites beneath dirty sheets / Insect intentions intent shunned in sects"), but he seems to splash his clever narratives with a more personal touch. It becomes raw and uncomfortable when he repeatedly snarls "I was only eight years old / holding a dead dog / on the front yard and no one's home" in "Two Mice," whether the scene is reconstructed from memory or drummed out of mere creativity.

One standout comes in the form of "Pink Slip," where quietly dancing guitars weave under Davis' soaring, catty calls, its various chorus succeeding with the yap of "I'm in the confines of it! Oh, oh, I'm in the confines and it's," the sentence completed by Davis' bandmates with a smoother, sung conclusion of "easierrr...so easierrr." Davis gets rather sassy in "The Royal We," while a healthy roll propels the song along well, fueled by pace-making tambourine shakes and circling, prickly guitar lines.Census, tracked with Alex Newport in October/November 2007, actually followed a scrapped recording with

Paul Mahajan that past January of what was to be titled People. But considering Newport's edge in regards to producing more "punk" bands, he makes much more sense as the producer here. Sure, Encrypt is weird and frantic, but there's a certain bite and aggression that Mahajan might only be familiar with in his work from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Newport captures it nicely -- the band sound clear as crystal glass and tight as hell, but no less antagonistic to the listener.

Word on the street is Encrypt will be calling it quits soon. They've subtly improvised and improved over their years as a band, all the while with a truly independent ethic -- like their other releases, the pristinely packaged Census was released on The Tone Library, a label seemingly run by members of the band. If the breakup rumors are true, it's obviously disappointing, but it will mean that the band's swan song was their best song.

Take one spoonful of prog, a dash of alt and an equally monosyllabic Curt, and what have you got? A pretentious start to a biography (Crane). Rearing from South Cumbria, Crane blend genres that have been perfected by the bearded and the non-bearded for generations; a sort of King Crimson 90's dance band. Since forming in 2009, Crane have toured England in support of their widely received Turret EP and have been intravenously teasing crowds with tracks from the their forthcoming album “Curious Robots And Nauseous Ears” sincely, with sights on festival slots this year. With each member taking influence from different adolescent musical paths, the combined sound is that of a 9/4 Coolio or Biffy covering The Roots. Crane have an ever increasing popularity, primarily down to their passion to create new sounds, drawing from a vast expanse of generally unacquainted music, yet it's accessibility promises anyone with a working ear drum an audial workout...

This is James from Prophet Nathan new band. I remember when the first time he gave me the demo of his new band, when the first time i listening to it, i'm so excited. And if i compare it with Prophet Nathan, this one is more progressive yet pop(y). But that time, there's only intrument and no vocals. I just imagine that it would be so awesome if he added a vocals there. So i send him an email and ask him about it, and he said that "there will be singing and the comparable band would be older Incubus but on drugs." and i just laugh out loud at it hahah... And 5 months later after my last email to him, he send me 7 tracks from Ace of Coins, and it calls "The Fool EP". Well, i'm very impressed when the first time i listening to it, and what makes me really impressed is that James really add a vocals there and he really did it well, and it sounds really like Incubus (older) sometimes but with math influenced hahah. My favorite songs from this EP is Systems of Symmetry and Serial Numbers, everytime i listen to the both songs, i feels so cozy and relax, and also James vocal style is really like B. Boyd on that both songs, it's like listening Incubus' Morning View but with different instruments. Well, talk about instrumentation, Ace of Coins instrument is pretty complex, but it's really easy to listen, and will not makes you boring just because its complexity, and i think everyone will be enjoying when they listen to this EP so much. Just quote what Shaun from Plenty of Swords said, "The Fool feels incredibly new but also a throwback to the golden age of math, the 90's.  Its a winning combination that I imagine everyone having an easy time enjoying...". Well, enjoy, and don't forget to support the band!!!

After shit hit the fan with Heartsfield Landing, Matt Huszar, one of Heartsfield’s many come-and-go drummers, started playing with guitarist Vasya Kochura as a new pastime. Vocalist Jake Dubois, also of Heartsfield Landing, got involved when he became acquainted with Vasya and their chemistry instantly formed a great haven for collaboration.
So, things got rolling and they had a few promising songs but they were short an instrument. Alexandre Clement, bassist and yet another former member of Heartsfield Landing, was recruited in winter ‘08 to complete the band now known as The Sharpest.

Despite three quarters of the band originating from Heartsfield Landing, The Sharpest ditched the familiar pop-punk sound for a smooth, blues aura with alt-rock influences from such artists as Portugal. The Man, The Fall of Troy, Radiohead, Pierce The Veil, The Mars Volta and as cities burn.
Though they’ve only played a handful of shows, the band’s following stretches from their hometown in Acton, Massachusetts down to Cape Cod and is quickly expanding.

Six-track "Recur Breath" opens with the explosive "Spiral of Kielce." The song has bassist Shuto Yoshikatsu and guitarist Takahashi Kunimitsu trading off vocals atop hard-hitting, angular rhythms, with Kunimitsu's screamo-styled yelps amping the energy level. Yoshikatsu's melodies dominate the next number, "Camm Aven." A polished piece of radio-friendly alt-rock, Itta Nakamura's frantic drumming leads the band into a brief bout of powerful mid-song math rock, a move that makes it a much more interesting track.

While Yoshikatsu handles most of the vocal duties on "Recur Breath," the disc's strongest moments come when Kunimitsu chimes in with backup shouts. While "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "Detoxified Sea of Trees" follow similar sonic paths as "Camm Aven," the contrast between Kunimitsu's impassioned hollering and Yoshikatsu's polished delivery on both tracks adds a stronger sense of urgency that makes for a more lasting impact.

Like "First Incident" before it, "Recur Breath" shows definite potential. But as The Cabs move forward, delving deeper into the screamo side of their music may make their first full-length a more dynamic production.

Invalids is a highly technical math-rock band consisting of Pete Davis (guitars, vocals, drum programming) from New Jersey and Nick Shaw (bass) from Pennsylvania. They have never met in real life. It is NOT the 90s Californian punk band “THE Invalids.”

ABOUT:
I (Pete) started writing these songs after hearing Maps and Atlases' "Every Place Is a House" for the first time. I was so blown away and enamored of the guitar technique that I had to figure out how it was done. That was
some time in 2008. The first demo recordings were done at my mom's house in New Jersey back in 2009.

I met Nick (bassist) through an online forum of musicians many years ago.
He asked if he could take a shot at the basslines in the demos, which, at that time, were done synthetically through VST (the bass parts were too hard for me to play myself). I said sure, what the heck, let's try it out.
He sent me the first track, "And Was It Worth It in the End?", and I was really (REALLY) impressed, especially because he was like 18 at the time.

Since then I've been writing the bass lines with him in mind; I tab everything out in a tablature program (including bass and drums), send him the files, he adds his bassist touch, and records it and sends it back.
We've never actually met in real life. He lives in Pennsylvania, I lived in Oregon when we made this. I now live in New Jersey.
