Child Bite - 2012 Monomania

Band : Child Bite
Album : Monomania
Release Year : 2012
Genre : Post-Punk | Noise | Experimental

Tracklist :
1 Wrong Flesh
2 The Nab Munch is On
3 Smear Where the Face Was
4 Vapor in the Orphan Loop
5 Begin The Hiss
6 Scum Gene (Trash Vibrato)

The foundation for Child Bite’s quirky instrumentals and noisy pop gems comes in the form of Zach Norton’s fuzzedout bass & Danny Sperry’s hectic drumming. Shawn Knight’s guitar & keyboards poke in and out from song to song, along with his signature vocal warble. The music is a combination of punk vigor and avant-garde ideals; the infusing of unconventional sounds with palatable arrangements.

In the midst of recording albums for their other bands, Knight, Norton & Sperry thought it would be a good idea to tackle yet another project. Child Bite was formed in late 2005 with an experimental writing style in mind; to document a handful of improvised sessions and later edit them down to concise arrangements for the band to learn. Recorded in two days at Chicago’s Phantom Manor, the eleven songs featured on “Wild Feast” are the outcome of this process.

A Place to Bury Strangers - 2012 Onwards to the Wall

Band : A Place to Bury Strangers
Album : Onwards to the Wall
Release Year : 2012
Genre : Indie | Noise | Post-Punk | Shoegaze

Tracklist :
01 I Lost You
02 So Far Away
03 Onwards to the Wall
04 Nothing Will Surprise Me
05 Drill It Up

When the New York based noise rock trio introduced themselves to the public with their homonymous debut, the torrentous response of the press / media was immediate. Triggering the critics' immeasurable hunger for newfound adjectives, A Place to Bury Strangers was usually parted with several words of bombastic enthusiasm, like cranium-crashing and bull-rushing, tagging the band as "New Yorke's loudest". Now, 5 years after that small triumph, a slightly worse second album and a couple of Eps, the nu-gazers return with Onwards To The Wall, a five-piece Ep that finds the band in less frustration, which seems to inevitably translate as "less inspiration".

Onwards to the Wall kicks in with "I Lost You", a song that resuscitates the cozy, bass driven, frenetic riffing that made A Place to Bury Strangers a ferocious, yet captivating listen. The seething guitar frenzy calms down though, and this becomes evident soon enough, as the familiar abrasiveness paves the way for a mature, post-punk approach in songs like title the track, where the quick paced strumming is replaced with downhearted murmuring melodies. This transition marks a mild downfall, as "Nothing Will Surprise Me" is pretty much a boring track, which several distorted leads can't save, with "Drill it Up" being completely uninteresting and devoid of that seducing fuzz or beat which the Ep promises by its beginning. "So Far Away" though, catches a murky groove which alongside Ackermann's gothy delivery feels wispy and catchy.

Onwards To The Wall neither marks A Place to Bury Strangers' degradation nor finds them evolving their sound. Having lost a load of the stomping power that characterized their previous releases, the band seems to slowly settle in the safer, post-punk environments. And while it is not clear that they have settled for such a direction, it is improbable that their visceral outcries will stop echoing in a future that musically seems to delve deeper and deeper in the noisy territories. -scissorlocked

AFI - 2003 Sing The Sorrow (UK Version)

Band : AFI
Album : Sing The Sorrow (UK Version)
Release Year : 2003
Genre : Punk | Post-Punk | Emo

Tracklist :
01 Miseria Cantare_ The Beginning
02 The Leaving Song Pt. II
03 Bleed Black
04 Silver and Cold
05 Dancing Through Sunday
06 Girl's Not Grey
07 Death of Seasons
08 The Great Disappointment
09 Paper Airplanes (Makeshift Wings)
10 This Celluloid Dream
11 The Leaving Song
12 ...but home is nowhere
13 This Time Imperfect
14 Synesthesia
15 Now the World

Sing the Sorrow is considerably different than the band's earlier material, which heavily revolved around the hardcore punk genre. Although Davey Havok's shouts remain intact, the sound shifts towards alternative rock, characterized by more elaborate production, slower tempos, and pieces of industrial music. The album includes experimental segments as well, featuring the inclusion of a spoken word poem accompanied by piano keys and the hidden track "This Time Imperfect", both intertwined within the last track on the album.

It ranked #77 in the October 2006 issue of Guitar World magazine's List of the 100 Greatest Guitar Albums of All Time. The album's lead single "Girl's Not Grey" received a 2003 VMA for the 'Best MTV2 Music Video' category. The track is also a playable track on the video game Rock Band 2, and a downloadable track for the video game Guitar Hero 5 and iPhone/iPod touch application Tap Tap Revenge. "The Leaving Song Pt. II" was also made available as downloadable content for the Rock Band series. "Dancing Through Sunday" was featured as a playable track in the video game Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock.

The album was released with three different covers, featuring different colors for the logo and text. The colors were red, silver and black. The original cover features red artwork. Several of the first pressings in the United States and United Kingdom featured the silver cover, but the pressings are now rare and out of print, although the digital version of Sing the Sorrow among iTunes still features the silver artwork. The black cover was solely available at performing shows within the United States tour following the album's release, and through the Despair Faction's online store as well. The black cover is now rare and out of print, with only 2,500 copies in circulation.

All versions of the back cover feature a small encircled picture. The picture is of an ocean horizon, a reference to the artwork of AFI's fourth studio album Black Sails in the Sunset. Although the album was released through DreamWorks Records, a logo of Nitro Records is found on the back cover of all versions, AFI's previous record label. The second to last page of the album booklet features a small picture of a rabbit with the phrase "Rabbits are Roadkill" written next to it, a reference to the song "Rabbits are Roadkill on Rt. 37", recorded during the Sing the Sorrow sessions and released in 2005.

International versions of the album use different artwork on the album label. Often contain a picture of an inverted octopus whilst other contain a foraminifer or a dead bird. All of the pictures are taken from the book Animals by Jim Harter. Some versions, including the Ukrainian edition, feature no artwork on the album label, and have inconsistent cover artwork from other versions.

Critical response to Sing the Sorrow was very positive. The review aggregator Metacritic scored the album a 81 out of 100, based on 11 reviews, with the mention of "Universal Acclaim". E! Online called it " well-crafted mix of hardcore bluster, determined melody and anthemic grandness that boasts depth and texture rarely heard from the Warped Tour ilk." Alternative Press awarded the album a perfect score, saying that, "Sing the Sorrow soars with the kind of melodies hit singles are made of, yet it somehow persists with AFI's esoteric darkness." Allmusic awarded the album 4 out of 5 stars and wrote: "Emerging in early 2003 with Sing the Sorrow, it's clear the molting process AFI began with Black Sails in Sunset is complete," and concluded that, "Whatever factions of the band's longterm fans might think of their major-label affiliation, Sing the Sorrow represents a coalescing of the band's sound." Rolling Stone awarded the album a 4 out of 5, claiming that "Sing the Sorrow is not exactly a concept album, but it does have a singleness of dark purpose that builds in momentum as the disc progresses." In further support, The New York Times rated Sing the Sorrow as the tenth-best album of 2003. Conversely, Entertainment Weekly awarded the album a 'D,' commenting that "The songs combine the most pretentious and overworked elements of their influences."

Born in a basement, based in London, the first outing of PRE had the entire audience locked outside, watching through barred windows from above. To the assemblage up top, it was clear that these five noise sprinkled nu-wavers had already figured it out - sound moves quicker in high pressure.

In the months that followed, PRE's rhythmically infectious skip-alongs were demonstrated on a flurry of releases. The band's debut 7" EP "Treasure Trails" caught ears by surprise and wouldn't let go. A rash of vinyl came in quick succession, pairing the band up with acts like AIDS Wolf, Dmonstrations, Bardo Pond, and Comanechi.

On September 18th, weighing 14 songs and coming in just over 20 minutes tall, "Epic Fits", PRE's debut album was born. Recorded in a chilly pizza storage unit with Westminster Brown at the controls, PRE's full length is cold sweat caught on two inch tape. US Tours, a sold out CMJ showcase at the Knitting Factory and a two page spread in Spin followed.

The Death of Anna Karina - 2011 Lacrima / Pantera

Band : The Death of Anna Karina
Album : Lacrima / Pantera
Release Year : 2011
Genre : Screamo | Post-Punk | Experimental

Tracklist :
01. Gli Errori E Di Fronte A Noi Il Nulla
02. Sparate Sempre Prima Di Strisciare

07. Un’ultima Volta
08. Strumentale
09. Per Scherzo
10. Cosi? Che Non Potranno Piu? Prenderci
11. Vile Omicidio

Inverted in one eye a trickle of blood runs down like a red thread that connects seemingly disparate worlds. Poised on this scarlet rope, one end Bertolt Brecht, Samuel Beckett and Albert Camus and the other, the scene of horrors, Massimo Volume and Starfuckers, in the medium, to vibrate the rope, The Death of Anna Karina , returned with more power than ever, with more words than ever. And this time, all strictly in Italian.

Lacrima / Pantera is a slap in the face, as eleven dives in a stormy sea that does not give you time to catch his breath, battery-smashing drums and cries of despair veined, also The Death of Anna Karina to join eventually go in that line of groups that makes the language of Dante hardcore heavy. And with enviable skill. On carpets of low obsessive and distorted guitars, in fact, the lyrics flow on Whooping among educated quotes (accompanied by guitar Camus resurrects Giulio Ragno Favero into a joke) and insights you can (and particularly raw and gloomy, sometimes, as in the track closing Vile murder), and leave no regrets about the way out to waiting five years elapsed between this brand new LP and the former New Liberalistic Pleasure.

Wasting other words, it is superfluous for those who can present themselves well. So, you do not have to do is arrange this disc, put it on and wait a few minutes. I defy anyone to reach the third track (the one that does not exist) and not find yourself repeating ad nauseam "and / not / you / laughed again," all accompanied by a little 'healthy headbanging.

Genre : Screamo | Post-Punk | Experimental

Tracklist :

10. Jlg And Anna Karina In A Bar
11. Instrumental

The Death of Anna Karina were born from the course of the hc-band Inedia, project with Davide and Alessandro on guitars and some other friends, started in 1999.
Changed with a new line-up during summer-autumn-winter 2001 with the entry of Giulio at voice first, Luca at bass and Adriano at drums then, Inedia setted up their musical approach, someone called it “chaos ‘n’ roll”, under the influence of Refused, Reversal of Man, JR Ewing and Orchid.
At their second show, Boris of Heroine Records received a really good impression from their exibition and they planned an LP together.

In spring 2002 they started and finished the live recording sessions for “(the death of) ANNA KARINA”, album inspired by the vision of “Vivre sa vie” by Jean Luc Godard, with the help of Giulio “ragno” Favero (ONE DIMENSIONAL MAN band) behind microphones. Then they decided to change their name in THE DEATH OF ANNA KARINA. The record received really enthusiastic reviews, opening many opportunities for tours outside Italy.
At the end of 2002 Rocco (of La Quiete) became a member of TDOAK definitive line-up, as a keyboards-guitar player.

In January 2003 they live-recorded some tracks, one for a double 7’’ compilation produced by the american label Slave Union Records, and two for a split 7’’ with french cult screamo band The Flying Worker! co-production for the Belgian Mashnote Records and the italian Life of Hate. All graphics of this 7’’ done by the artist and friend Ericail Cane.
It follows an intense live activity on big stages, little floors or practice rooms’ moquettes in Germany, Belgium, Austria and everywhere in Italy. They played with Melt-Banana, Light the Fuse and Run, Sunshine, The Vanishing and many others… and last summer they have played in some hc festivals of international resonance, as like the IeeperFest in Belgium and the Fluff Fest in
the Czech Republic… in the meantime, thank to a lot of talking on messageboards worldwide and to a remarkable downloading, their first LP got a good number of really interested fans everywhere, and now it has been re-pressed in an american vinyl-version for the Slave Union Records.

During all 2004 TDOAK face the suffered recordings of their second full-lenght record, obstructed from some incidents and various changes…
Finally New Liberalistic Pleasures is available from now for the boombastic Italian Label Unhip Records with its 11 tracks wich mark their distance from screamo’s monochromy and testify a brand new view dense of sonorous references (from Arab on Radar to Camera Obscura till Depeche Mode) to build a new mature musical personality.
Probably it appears less definable, a bit softer, but more scratching than ever.
The distinctive features of their new work reside in the care for keyboards. arrangements, in its rock attitude and in the satyric (and self-ironic) cut of lyrics.

Animals of the Bible - 2007 Animals of the Bible

Band : Animals of the Bible
Album : Animals of the Bible
Release Year : 2007
  Genre : Post-Punk | Electronic | Experimental

 Tracklist :
 01 Holiday
02 Electric Mistake
03 I.Hate.Ewe
04 Shockandahhhh
05 Momsthenewdad
06 Dadsthenewmom
07 Chase That Dragon
08 Dance Trash Dance
09 Kuffs

The 9 tracks come out, at first, like a panic attack: tense, urgent, and all at once. then somewhere unexpectedly around the middle it was like someone took a bar and everything slowed down. It took me a while the realize that, since the band broke up in early 2006, this whole album was written in the crazy, wacky world of post 9-/11 national PTSD. Once that realization hit me it all made sense. This album is the the perfect description of how the first five years of war felt for me and I'm sure many other young people growing up through all the bullshit. Even though, to this day, I can't understand a single fucking word being said (and I'm almost certain the lyrics aren't political in nature) the emotive tone of the vocals can almost tell the story of a PTSD Vet, coming home and winding up at BAMC or Medical Center.

Over the course of the album the band starts a little cold and as the music begins everything is just a tiny bit off beat. But as AOTB progress's throughout the set everything gets tighter and groovier. We begin to hear the Synth alternating skillfully between being a lead and a droning background instrument. What appears to be an Alesis Micron creates, between tracks, surreal and almost disquieting interludes that are perfect breaks between the freneticism of most of the tracks and by the end we are left entirely exhausted.

(Ultimately, I suppose, the music sounds as though Reader had sex with Make Your Own Maps…. actually, That's exactly what it sounds like…. Period…. Fuck everything else I just said.)

Animals of the Bible was always a bundle of questions. An artifact from before the times of Pinata Protest and Pop Pistol, from before Lisa Frank and Gloam and Ecocide, from before Deer Vibes and Viet-Ruse. From before I was around I guess. I'm sure some of you know the story of AOTB, I'm sure some of you know them personally and you might find this short term nostalgia humorous. But I think this is the most important part of music. The memories we attach to a song or an album, to the moment of first experiencing. It's something that will always be evoked when you go back to it.

I'm not sure. For me Animals of The Bible will always be: A 40oz. Old English in 2007, Leaning about what happened in New York from Texas -6th grade -spanish class, Punk that inspires, the language of our children and all that other lame ass shit. And I think, that it will always be much more fun that way.

Coming off a highly successful appearance at the 2008 Next Big Nashville rock festival, Gnarwhal is currently working on the follow-up to their acclaimed debut Seahemoth and prepping for an extended winter tour. Having played with niche rock favorites including Jeff the Brotherhood, Experimental Dental School, Psyopus, and others, Gnarwhal has evolved from an experimental lineup featuring drums and dueling guitars to a four-piece wall of sound that displays elements of Hella , Don Caballero, The Melvins, Russian Circles, and a variety of bands of the post-punk genre and beyond.

Young and energetic, Gnarwhal has built a strong regional following from its base in Nashville using the time-tested formula of great songs, great playing, and guitars turned up just a little too loud.

“If breakneck guitar riffs, caffeinated tempos, nonlinear song structures, and howling vocals aren’t your cup of tea, Gnarwhal might send you running for the hills, or it might expand your musical landscape.” (KDHX Radio, St. Louis.)

These “noisy conquistadors of the house-show circuit” have also shared the stage (or floor) with: Giant Squid, Prizzy Prizzy Please, Evil Bebos, Meemaw, Turbo Fruits, Realicide, Caddywhompus, Terrible Twos, Sunglasses, and many more.

3 How To Become An Assassin
4 We Aren't Vampires, We're Cowboys

8 Punch In And Breed
9 I Think I'm Going To Be Sick
10 Establishment Of Pronunciation
11 This Math Is Complicated
12 One Last Grasp
13 And It Never Ends

The Book Of Dead Names were a spazzy, groovy, Post-Punk inspired Screamo band from Minneapolis.  They named themselves after the mythological "Necronomicon" invented by "master" of 'weird fiction', H.P. Lovecraft.  During their time as an active entity, they hit the road with the likes of the Locust, Reversal Of Man and CombatWoundedVeteran.  The band was comprised of members from other popular Minneapolis groups such as Song Of Zarathustra and the Cadillac Blindside.  These songs have some disturbing, dark, almost Gothic undertones to them.  Very ominous in presentation, they flow along like a thunderstorm just beyond the horizon.  With tense, angular guitars wound so tight they sound like they could break at any moment.  I can definitely hear some of that early Factory Records sound here.  Or, how about, that pre-Joy Division album by Warsaw.  My closest modernized comparisons would be Anger Hair, Mohinder and more recently, the Blood Brothers.  This is some of that super angsty, fall on the floor while screaming beyond the microphone Hardcore.  Midwest Represent!!

Groundskeeper is a 3 piece from Oakland, California who plays a style that shifts between prog rock, math rock, and post-punk with odd metered time signatures and unorthodox song structures.

Guitarist Alex Woods, bassist Chris Chegia and drummer Jordan Sobolew all being former music students in business, performance and engineering (respectively) bring together a wide range of influences to make something uniquely interesting or utterly repulsive, depending on what you’re into.
Thanks again for I Just Got This Blog Goin' for sharing such a nice band!!!

Monument - 2011 Sweatpants Fever!

Album : Sweatpants Fever!
Release Year : 2011
Genre : Emo | Post-Punk | Mathrock

Tracklist :
01. Goddamned Claw Machine
02. Extreme Walrus Juice

08. What A Wonderful Puddle (Braid)

Monument are an emo band from Washington, D.C. Founded in 2006, Monument combines the sounds of American Football, Braid, and the like culminating in a badass concoction of complex guitar and unique vocals.
The band's sound is most akin to Algernon Cadwallader (a rather happy sound), but definitely more frantic and raw sounding. And throughout this recording, the rawness gives it a punker sounding element many other bands in the genre lack.

A Place To Bury Strangers - 2009 Exploding Head

Band : A Place To Bury Strangers
Album : Exploding Head
Release Year : 2009
Genre : Shoegaze / Post-Punk / Noise

Tracklist :
1. It Is Nothing
2. In Your Heart
3. Lost Feeling
4. Deadbeat
5. Keep Slipping Away
6. Ego Death
7. Smile When You Smile
8. Everything Always Goes Wrong
9. Exploding Head
10. I Live My Life to Stand in the Shadow of Your Heart

A Place To Bury Strangers are basically the second coming of the legendary shoegaze/post-punk bands of the past twenty/thirty years. So there, that will be the last time A Place To Bury Strangers will be compared to their influences. What they are doing now is far more important. With their self-titled debut, we found a stripped down, poorly produced album that was rightly praised despite its lack of fine tuning. And while they account for a relative minority, there are people whom refuse to listen to dated music (i.e. music not relevant to their generation). In fact, to an unsuspecting listener, A Place To Bury Strangers’ newest album, Exploding Head might as well be the most badass thing they have ever heard. That is because it is.

What makes A Place To Bury Strangers so appealing is their fusion of dissonant guitar riffs that mingle with gorgeous vocal work all within a dense atmosphere. Softly spoken, but never overpowered, guitarist/singer Oliver Ackermann does no harm to any particular track. In short, Exploding Head was planned perfectly, starting with the vocal management. Ackermann sings when necessary, songs end when they should, and every hook, whether vocally or instrumentally, compliments almost too well. “Smile When You Smile” swirls behind hypnotizing snare hits, as its pop-laden verses manage the song until it fades into the bass-heavy “Everything Always Goes Wrong.” In fact, the bass riffs in Exploding Head are astonishingly simple in theory, yet the removal would be detrimental to any sort of album identity (it helps when the bassist does not act as an underlying patsy to the guitar for the entire album). Never flashy, yet always effective, whether the bass glosses a bridge or introduces any particular track it is simply divine. With every riff, A Place To Bury Strangers burst with confidence and the safety knowing that what they are writing is in perfect harmony.

Once again, it is this sort of self-esteem that allows A Place To Bury Strangers to be removed of any unnecessary experimentation in order to separate themselves from their self-titled album and other bands. The drumming heartbeat of “Lost Feeling” pulsates as guitars screech and reverb in-and-out as Ackermann sings ‘I’m dying to meet you/I’m dying to see you/I’m dying to hold your hand/ I’m dying to have you/ some things never go away/ but the feeling’s gone, the feeling is gone.’ Clearly, even the lyrics are removed of any type of sugar-coating. Ackermann’s use and manipulation of pedals is all A Place To Bury Strangers needs in order to be successful. His side hobby of making pedals allows songs like “Keep Slipping Away” to sound as if a piano produced the main riff, which is inventive enough without self-imposed wankery. Lastly shines, “I Lived My Life to Stand in the Shadow of Your Heart,” the epic marquee of Exploding Head that starts with a loud and passionate bass riff as vocal melodies sit atop a continuous instrumental build-up. The closer becomes engulfed with a persistent, chugging bass guitar until a cataclysmic wall of sound brings closure to perhaps the album’s finest moment.

Throughout the forty-three minute course of the album, the mass of sound never overwhelms, simply bolsters every thick, grooving bass riff. A Place To Bury Strangers would feel a grave injustice if their listeners kept the volume lower than the maximum allotted for any set of speakers or headphones. This album needs to be cranked; as a successful listen is one that is followed by ringing eardrums and a deep exhale of contentment. Exploding Head holds as one of the most consistent, mind-blowing releases this year, unwavering of an any possible identity crisis. It is safe to say A Place To Bury Strangers have officially made a name for themselves, and it is rather rewarding to know their style is here to stay.

Rough Day At The Orifice (On Pop Pop, 1998 - 31G, 2003) is a demented collage of feverish and feral sounds, vaguely approaching the state of music, somewhere along the twisted line that straddles Red Crayola, Pop Group, Mars, Pere Ubu, and Six Finger Satellite.

Arab on Radar is a neo No-wave band. Using the sounds of the 1970’s most rebellious genre as its muse and retaliating against a whole new batch of mainstream punk music. You see No-Wave began as a wholly serious, but extremely goofy retaliation towards the mainstreaminized punk sounds of the late 70’s and early 80’s New Wave genre. The lyrics may not have been a direct attack on skinny white ties and poofy hair, but the graphic, disgusting, snotty sex and violence references make it obvious enough that these guys are angry about something. What Arab on Radar has to be mad about is your guess, but based on their genius band name I’d probably say it has something to do with our country’s attitude towards war. But I guess the most obvious and nostalgic answer would be the explosion of newer “pop-punk” scenes in southern California. And if there’s one thing that Arab is NOT it’s a pop-punk band.

Eric Paul has a voice like a dying canary. Remember that fly character on the early eighties/nineties Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV show? Play that guy’s voice in your head, but on top of a sort of Grind/Indie hybrid of incredibly annoying treble and pounding rhythms and you can probably get a good idea of the kind of fierceness Paul brings to the band. His lyrics are something else entirely. Songs are usually made up of a few quirky, extremely dirty phrases repeated over and over as if on some mission to pound the words into your head. “Her underwear as April showers and I’m pissing on her may flowers” and “Repunzal Repunzal let down your long pubic hair” are just some of the examples of this stupidity/brilliance. But as much as the songs take influence from sex they take about twice that much from substance abuse. Even from afar it’s obvious how much drugs and alchohol it took to make this record. Songs evolve sloppily from intro to outro, with detached guitar squeals and psychedelic bass lines. Each song seems to be glazed over with a fuzzy honey-like substance, making lyrics to hard to decipher and songs harder to listen to.

Formed in 2006 out of Graz, Austrian’s Pack Of Wolves comprises 4 guys hell bent on creating unusual off-kilter punk rock. Pack of Wolves delivers an onslaught of raw, bloody, and biting emotion in every line of every song. The often abstract pain of grief, anger, disappointment, and conflicted love all find palpable form and expression in the lyrics and vocal delivery of Intimacy Is A Serious Danger. Instrumental pacing calls to mind early punk acts like The Sex Pistols and the original line-up of The Ramones.
Their sound is influenced by bands like Disco Ensemble and And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead as well as more punkier bands like Propagandhi, Refused and Beatsteaks. From this their unusual sound makes a lot more sense. Here's their debut LP, enjoy it!
