The band sat somewhere between screamo, post hardcore and post rock and were influenced by the likes of Daitro, Envy, Red Sparowes, From Monument to Masses.

So in the midst of writing a new album, the dudes from Archives decide to disband, but luckily also decide to release the written material. And to be completely honest, after listening to this release it makes me want to cry like a girl and piss my pants out of sorrow for the loss of such a great band. This stuff is brilliant and deserves to be listened. Enjoy!

Serena Joy, an ambient mix of lo-fi indie, post rock and melodramatic sky torching screamo.

Something has been brewing in the Serena Joy camp for a while. Covertly stealing members from several defunct underground bands, including andtheywillriot! and Missiles of Uncertain Destinations, they've now burst back onto the scene as a formidable seven-piece band, incorporating a range of new instruments including a violin, keys and even a mini-accordion brought out especially for the live show. What's more, their new EP, holding the appropriately gallant title “Ours Will Be A Lonely Battle”, may well turn out to be the most brazenly epic thing you have ever heard!

Split into four tracks or “movements” this 20-minute cinematic composition voyages through dynamic late-90s screamo territory, taking in sprawling sections of weaving instrumentation and post-rock ambience. Narrated by a mixture of raw screaming vocals, harmonious female singing, snatches of background chatter and poignant laments, it draws to a memorable finale with an extended spoken-word passage residing behind driving instrumentation that gradually gathers intensity; an unwavering stream of consciousness, falling over itself to get the words out, and ultimately climaxing with a coming together of voices in the rousing sing-along.

Understated, it is not. But although victory appears to ring hollow for the protagonists at the heart of the record’s concept, for the band itself this is far from the truth. Overblown, but splendidly so; Ours Will Be A Lonely Battle indulges in many of the great aspects of music, raging war on tired and bloated genres by ripping them apart and pillaging the best bits - much as sadly defunct Scottish five-piece The Fall Of Boss Koala did so well. And, before you say it, yes - I am fully aware of the romanticised nature of some of the statements contained in this review, but when faced with an affair of such magnitude, just you try describing it without getting a little carried away!

Solomon Solomon was a screamo/post-rock from Virginia that lasted from 2009 till 2012. The band features members of Perfect Future, Age Sixteen, Studying, and probably a million other bands. Sadly this is their only release, besides a few demo tracks. They’ve been working on perfecting this one album over the entire lifetime of their band, so the amount of effort put into it means you’re in for some pretty passionate stuff. The style of screamo they play is very fast and dark, but also has plenty of moments of Explosions in the Sky style twinkling post-rock and even some Age Sixteen like moment. Their style is best compared to Funeral Diner and City of Caterpillar, but the thing that shine with them is the use of the dynamics. The flow of them is so much more great than even Funeral Diner. Each calm is as beautiful as the last, and with each intense explosion of distortion, blast beats, and screaming, you feel the power and aggression. If more screamo was like this, rather than the string of “twinkle daddy screamo” or the simple octave chord non-sense, then I feel the scene would be a lot more thriving and be looked at as being more mature. Hailing from the heart of Scotland, Mesa Verde are here with their debut EP ‘Amor Fati’. They’re the sort of band that is hard to categorise or pigeonhole, yet their influences are obvious, ranging from prog-rock, to metal, to good old fashioned hardcore. In this 24-minute EP.The introduction to ‘Clarity with distance’ is a misleading excerpt that takes influence from prog-rock heroes Tool, before descending into madness. Fortunately, it’s the organised kid of madness that makes for pleasant hearing. Sounding like a b-side of some kind of Thursday/Poison the

Well supergroup hybrid, it’s a well structured piece that utilises some great guitar and drum work to create an epic sound. ‘Substance Abuse’ is something of a let down after the first track, as the ghostly progressive sound is replaced by the more straight-up hardcore elements. While not being a bad song itself, it’s by far the weakest here. Following this is a sort of prelude to the following track which allows us to hear the gentler side of Mesa Verde. Sounding like a live recording, it demonstrates the band’s compositional ability, before we are hit with ‘Dance Dance Dance’. The aforementioned serves as a brilliant contrast to the instrumental interlude, as it returns back to the heavier side of things, with some pretty experimental drumbeats throughout, and a definite structure proving hard to pinpoint. Not that this is a negative point though – when music like this is done wrong, it ends up sounding crap, cheesy and rushed. Fortunately Mesa Verde gets it spot on and proves they have the talent to pull these kinds of songs off.

Ending on a colossal 11-minute journey without a name is the finest idea this band have offered on this 4-track EP. There really are bits of everything thrown in here, and it’s the sort of idea that shouldn’t work at all, but it just does. Pulling together all their influences, they manage to have created a track which sounds entirely unique in today’s musical landscape, and serves as a well overdue piece of refreshment from the copycat bands polluting our venues and labels. I’d like to see this band make a name for themselves, as ‘Amor Fati’ is actually a great record, but because it’s so unconventional, so experimental and ultimately so varied; I struggle to see this happening. -Andy R (punktastic)

Formed in late 2009 in Besançon, the group consists of five musicians. I WAS A COSMONAUT HERO is moving towards a sincere music, aggressive and tinged melodies chaotic. At the crossroads of post hardcore and screamo. The texts questioning life, human relationships and the place of the individual in society. From this division was born a tormented her, nervous and abrasive. Trachimbrod (former Come Across Trachimbrod) is a swedish screamo/postrock band who despite of it's young age all ready has reached thousands of ears around the world. Listeners describe the music with lines as "Melodic and beautiful, even in the rougher moments", "The most emotional anthem in the screamo scene" and "Inexpressible atmosphere, excellent catchy melodies plus brilliant vocals make it a true masterpiece".

In 2007 there were three friends who formed an alternative rock band of sorts. Due to various reasons a member left for Australia in the May of 2011 all whilst their tastes, interests, and pursuits in music changed. In the December of the same year the kid returned for a break from university life of sorts. He quickly teamed up with one of his old bandmates and another childhood friend to start a Screamo band of sorts after being exposed to the genre through several years of trawling stupid pretentious internet forums, communities, blogs, and such. In the matter of two months they had, they wrote and recorded an EP entitled Songs. The songs themselves were about identity crises, senses of belonging, and deep loss that these kids felt they needed to express and so they named themselves after a lyric found in The National’s song Sorrow which they felt reflected the music and the lyrics perfectly;

“Sorrow's my body on the waves, Sorrow's a girl inside my cake, I live in a city sorrow built, It's in my honey, it's in my milk”.

A City Sorrow Built are Emil Raji, Agus Mariana, and Adi Suryawan.

Vowel is five piece screamo band from columbus, mixing chaos and beauty. They add a violin to their music, and i really love it!! It's reminds me a little bit of I Would Set Myself on Fire For You with their male and female vocals and the violin sounds. Alex from Miss the Stars already put their 2 songs earlier, and i've been watching them since then. And this album is so fucking awesome, and it would be one of my favorite records of this year!!! For you who enjoying epic screamo and post-rock, you should give them a listen, Highly recommended!! Enjoy!!!

PAN are an uplifting instrumental band who love to play happy and epic music. They’ve released their first e.p in March 2011 called “Post Rock is Not Dead.” They are also currently preparing to record a full length album that will be released in late February/early March titke “These are the things I love, and I want to share them with you.

Lead by a twin guitar onslaught and fortified by an airtight rhythm section, the band resists the urge to fill every moment with a barrage of notes, opting instead to explore tension and release to great effect, as Pan’s songs drift from epic passages of sublime beauty to crushing assaults of melodic intensity. And they’ve got the chops to match their formidable composition skills, which are complex but never condescending. You don’t need a degree in Advanced Music Theory to enjoy Pan. Two ears in good working order will do. Oh, and a hand for throwing goat. You’re gonna need it.

This airy and spacey post-rock feel permeates the album even when one can easily draw connections to bands such as Russian Circles and Red Sparowes and their brand of heavier post-rock. The album flows naturally and one is never left feeling disjointed and no transitions are jarring. If Trees Could Talk have crafted an album that flows seamlessly from haunting melodies to soothing sonnets. The music sometimes feels like you’re summiting a mountain peak and breathing in the cool, virgin air while other times you feel like you are tumbling head over heels downriver, caught in the current. Both are exhilarating and euphoric. This album is not one that you can merely listen to, it must be experienced. You will find time passing that you don’t remember; so entranced were you with the music. This is helped along by the wonderful pacing of the album. Never are you left wishing the music was slower or faster, it is always exactly the right speed. The guitars flow over each other to create a sonic landscape that sounds huge. These songs just feel large. This album generates a feeling of great open spaces, of the world before us. This music is the soundtrack to exploration.

If you are looking for an album that is beautiful without being overbearing, tenacious without being overzealous or just something that will make you forget your problems, this is where you should stay. If one needs even more convincing just listen to the gorgeous melodies that are contained within “The Aleutian Clouds”. How these men transfer such elegance from their minds to their music is a mystery.

As the album fades and your journey draws to a close you may realize that the last fifty minutes or so slipped away from you. This album possess the ability to truly remove you from reality, a goal that many strive to achieve but never fully grasp.

Released just in time for a 10 days Russian winter tour, Nagykanizsa is a new collection of songs by French post hardcore group Aussitôt Mort. Just like the name of their first full lenght « Montuenga » (Level-Plane & Pure Pain Sugar - 2008), the name of this new record is a place the band had to cross during one of its numerous travels. Rather than releasing a second full lenght, Aussitôt Mort decided to share these new songs with friends : they are or will be released on various vinyl formats shared with japaneses Heaven In Her Arms, americans Catalyst, or on german label Adagio. Nagykanizsa is your unique chance to listen to all the songs from the 2011 recording session at studio de la souleuvre, mixed and mastered by Guillaume Doussaud of Swan Sound Studio (Taint, Karysun, Amanda Woodward...), with Marc Euvrie (Sugartown Cabaret, Karysun, The Eye Of Time) on bass duties. This session shows a new face of Aussitôt Mort, with darker and longer songs (5 songs in 35 min). Just like the life of the band that has done many tours in France, Europe, Uk, Japan and now Russia, this new CD is a long and epic journey. You'll recognize the band writing style mainly consisting of melodic guitars riffs full of effects supported by complex hammered drum riffs; but you will also enjoy the progression that the band is taking on this new recording. Every riffs, every parts of each songs last long enought to let all details, rythms and melodies be developped. These longer songs give the listener some time to dream of far landscapes, and to imagine all moments lived by the band of travellers that is Aussitôt Mort.

Ancre is a emo-rock trio from France, formed in Summer 2010 by Arnaud (guitar, Sed Non Satiata), Benoit (drums, Daïtro, Mihaï Edrisch, Bâton Rouge), Simon (bass, Plebeian Grandstand, Montreal On Fire). They started almost 2 years ago after the hiatus of both Sed Non Satiata and Daitro... They just played few shows for the moment but this is their debut release. 4 instrumental math-post-rock songs for this first effort recorded this summer in Toulouse and mixed by Santi Garcia in Spain... somewhere between Maserati and Sed Non Satiata with the unique drumming of Benoit and great bass lines of Simon (Plebeian Grandstand, Montreal On Fire).
