Since they first caught our eye at SXSW in 2009, iwrestledabearonce is a band that continues to captivate us in the way they explore new musical territories, blend the borders between genres and just generally rock out.
Now the band has taken another step toward total dominance of the musical world, inviting DJs to take a stab at remixing their blend of grindcore and electronica. The resulting EP, It's All Dubstep, is pretty extraordinary, and the best part is that the band is giving the remixed tracks away on their Facebook page for free.
The great thing about this compilation is the way that no DJ remixed the band similarly. Some went dark while some went dancy, some focused on frontwoman Krysta's ethereal pipes while some grabbed hold of her guttural growls for all their worth.
IWABO guitarist Steven Bradley summed it up best in this statement:This project rules because the mixes were all done by people even more insane than us, so these tracks are even crazier/heavier/weirder than the original songs.
That's pretty dead on.
