What we have here is a pushing 20 minutes of musical dynamite. Jairus, from the Great Britain. Now here is contemporary post-hardcore, yet so non-contemporary. It has its obvious influences, At the Drive-In, The Cure, The Mars Volta, Radiohead, Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, etcetera. This here is a rare talent, to blend so many different sounds and attitudes, nuances and feelings and yet come out with something that is consistent but doesn’t fall flat. Another admirable asset is how it’s a great listen for anybody at the start – you won’t have to “learn” how to appreciate this. It’s nowhere near radio-friendly or commercial, but it has space, a lot of room.
