The press kit specifically points out that the band stands out of the mass due to talented innovative songwriting etc...So I will start by strongly disagreeing with them in every way possible. Against The Flood play exactly what a thousand others do these days: metal/hardcore american style. And they’re british..
The vocals alone are the proof to "betray" the band in an authenticity contest. The guy sounds like Oliver "Oli" Syke of Bring Me The Horizon, big time! It really needs an effort to keep a safe distance from one’s influences. From there on the band plays breakdown after breakdown with some leads and rhythmic riffing trying to give a different colour, but they don’t manage...Fact: they are good at what they do, fact: the sound of this recording is massive and crystal clear. But really, we’ve heard it all before. It’s truly a pity being so predictable, it takes some balls to create personality to your sound.
I don’t want to be a complete jack ass though, these british lads do what they do and they do it with dignity. The songs on this EP are not bad and I’m sure there’s a good number of people out there that digs this thing, not paying too much attention to the details mentioned above. So, without condemning them to eternal death I’ll hold my horses till their debut is out. Those of you with modern tastes should give it a try.-metalzone.gr
