As far as I am aware, Acme, Carol, Systral, and a few others helped to define a new type of hardcore in the mid 90s, now referred to as the Bremen sound. Bands like Season, Soar, Shikari, and Hybris arose a few years later, heavily influenced by the pioneers but continuing to advance the genre. This 12'' is the latter's discography; twenty four minutes of blistering and crushing hardcore. It is an absolutely amazing release, particularly because the six song demo tape that Hybris originally put out themselves was a very small-scale release and most folks (including me) won't have heard it. Now these songs have been put on vinyl, along with the rest of the band's discography, which consists of a compilation track and a 7"; the songs have all been remastered and the sound quality is excellent.

You barely have a moment's relief as Hybris pummel their way through this record. The vocals are ridiculous, I don't know how people manage to sustain such harshness with their vocal chords. The material is in definite Acme territory in terms of how it sounds; the guitars and bass contain moments of soft melody but most of the time are busy racing through various chords. True, numerous songs sound rather alike but that's because the formula itself is simple - I am not looking for a Jimi Hendrix masterclass, I am looking for my brain to melt as I turn the volume right up. And god damn, there is a very pissed off guy inside my speakers.

Overall, if you like the aforementioned bands then there really is no excuse not to get this, you won't regret it.
