Band : Skt. Conrad
Album : Dance, Brandon! Dance!
Release Year : 2007
Genre : Emo | Screamo
Tracklist :
1. Dengang Alt Var Grat
2. David in the Bubble and the Space Suit
3. En Evig Cyklus Af Liv
4. Ingen Hvad Der Skjjuler Sig I Morket
most splendid debut release by this screamo outfit from Denmark. Although I am mostly disappointed in the newer screamo bands as of late - even the "bigger" new names - I think Skt. Conrad has something great going on. Side A starts off with melodic, super jangly guitars. You know. The parts Danse Macabre uses here and there. Skt. Conrad however fills almost their entire song with this hair raising sweetness. Then I was expecting the song to burst out in a screamo frenzy, but the band first introduces some laid back vocals that reminded me of Engine Down on their "to bury within the sound" record. Soft, clean and a bit dreamy. It's only after a few minutes that Saint Conrad bursts out of their fragile shell and produce somewhat harder, more crazy parts with screamed vocals. Side B is a bit more of the same with a few intense build-ups in the first song and yelled multiple vocals in song two.
The artwork is a bit shonky if you ask me, but the whole DIY-approach and feel of this release is authentic.
