Yes, finally a screamo band that still convinces in the pool of thousand meaningless bands. Meleeh doesn’t like to use clean vocals but opts for intense screams that feel like heart-rending cries. It gives this Swedish band an aggressive side that fits the emotional but yet heavy music. Think Refused on a conventional trip combined with the aggressive parts of Thursday (at the time of ‘Full Collapse’) and a small portion of the Japanese Envy.
William Blackmon of the Swedish grindcore band Gadget helped with the mixing and mastering of ‘Heartland’. I don’t know if it was his input but the sound is still aggressive and sometimes even a bit rough without losing any definition. The best atmosphere for the lyrics of Meleeh that are a protest to and a reflection of the modern world we are living in.
Eight songs full of emotional hardcore may not be much for a full length but I prefer eight peaks (check out “Angstridden” or “Black Blizzard” for example) in thirty minutes to twelve songs with four fillers.
